Samar cave is located on the mountain Kalafat. The cave is located at 25km from the city of Nis, and is very accessible. The entrance to the cave is at the end of the village of Kopajkosara, where the stream Sudvik comes out on the surface. Samar Cave is a cave that is special in many ways.
It is interesting to mention the name of the nearby village Kopajkosara. Before entering the cave, at the turn from the main road, the village is not visible at all. Sometimes in the Middle Ages, someone from this village shouted “run away, people, dig up(kopaj) the baskets (košara) the Turks are coming”, which resulted in the village’s name.
