This Museum is located in the first mine in Pernik which opened in 1891. In the venue there are real objects from the work of the miners from the opening to the closure of the mine for a whole century. In 30 different sections you can observe and follow the development of the technologies used in the mining during the years with original tools and instruments, used by the workers and laboratories, as well as the different layers of the ground and the soil. You will learn amazing facts about

Right in front of the main entrance you can see an old stoned tree, called the tree of happiness, aged about 50 million years. For those who love legends, if you touch it and make a wish, it will definitely come true very soon.

The tour starts at every hour and takes about 30 minutes. The guides use Bulgaria, English and Russian languages. It is not allowed to take pictures inside.

In Europe there are only 2 museums of this kind – one in Pernik, and the other is in Manchester, UK.

There is also a media room where you can watch the documentary about Pernik and the museum. Nowadays the underground galleries are also used for various shows.

It is suitable for family visits too. Might not be interesting for little children.
